Rocket Yoga is a fast-paced practice and has a dynamic flow. It has a structure, and a system of sequences based on repetition consisting of Surya Namaskar, standing poses, seated poses, twists, and bends. This repetition builds core strength, opens up the body, and sets you up for fun yet challenging inversions. While rocket yoga definitely challenges you to step outside your comfort zone you are encouraged modify, making it a practice that improves body awareness and encourages you to listen inwards and adapt to suit your body. After working hard we will always have a long, slow, blissful cool down and allow the body to slow down and tune inwards, finished with a beautiful, relaxing Savasana. Whenever you’re practicing Rocket, you can always expect to work hard, laugh, have fun, and be playful with your practice. I can’t wait to share it with you all on Tuesday evenings!
We will explore the Rocket 1 sequence over five weeks.
Week 1: Intro to Rocket yoga. In week one we will explore the Rocket 1 sequence. Moving through a dynamic flow incorporating Surya Namaskar, standing poses, seated poses, twists and folds. For those who are familiar with the sequence there will of course be plenty of opportunities to add in all that you have already learned and turn up the heat!
Week 2: Arm day – This week is all about building upper body strength that lays the foundations for a strong and safe practice. We will build strength through movement and flow and through the isometric work done when holding poses. Expect a challenge, but as always plenty of variations for everyone!
Week 3: Leg day – This week we will explore the balance between strength and mobility. Combining a strong warm up to build heat in the body will progressively explore opportunities to strengthen the lower body and challenge different muscle groups. We will also build mobility by exploring flexion, and extension of the hip joint along with internal and external rotation.
Week 4: Core Strength – This week our Rocket sequence will incorporate options to develop core strength. It is foundational to building a strong and safe yoga practice and what helps us with our inversions. Expect a variety of drills of keep us on our toes and challenge different muscle groups. This will help us feel lighter and steadier when practicing challenging balancing poses and when exploring inversions.
Week 5: Inversions and arm balances. This week we will break down some of the inversions and arm balances that are optional in our Rocket practice. We will build confidence and break poses down with options for everyone. Get ready to step outside your comfort zone!
