Level 2 Moving on from Beginners
Mysore is the traditional method for learning Ashtanga yoga as taught by the late Sri K Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. In a Mysore class, each student has an individualized practice which is developed and overseen by the teacher. Postures are learned one by one so that the student is able to memorize the sequence slowly and the body is able to adapt to the postures over time. During Mysore, students of all levels practice at their own pace and are given instruction verbally and through hands on adjustments. Mysore is suitable for students of all ages and abilities and is the traditional method of learning yoga, one on one from teacher to student. We invite you to come experience the meditative quality of Mysore practice.
A class for those of you who have completed beginners classes and would like to take your practice to the next level. During these classes we will delve deeper into the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga in a true MYSORE Style.
A level 2 class so not suitable for complete beginners.
This ashtanga course will delve more into the use of the healing ujjayi breath and blending it with the asana practice. We breathe through the nostrils while matching the breath with the asana. Exhaling as we enter and inhaling as we release the pose. The breath sets the rhythm for the practice . When practiced correctly and with focus , it moistens and heats the air , cleansing and rejuvenating the mind , body and spirit. It calms and soothes the senses , brings a purifying heat into the body , bringing the air to a deeper place in the lungs , awakening every fibre of our being while burning out anything no longer useful to us. We enter this world on an inhalation, we exit on an exhalation everything in between is experiencing. It doesn’t come naturally but with practice it will become second nature. Your nervous system will thank you. Everyone will feel the joy of the ashtanga primary series. Although very important ,Its not just about the physicality of the practice , but also whats happening inside , in every part of our being. This is where the benefits of the ashtanga practice are felt over the long term. It will be a strong practice but variations will be offered and are welcome for all poses. Just bring a towel and a smile. Im looking forward to sharing this beautiful space with you all.
